Plot
For a week, Max drops Ben and Gwen at the Stars Beyond Camp. Gwen is ecstatic, while Ben is confused, Max reminds them to pretend to be ordinary kids for the week. Their mission is to find and take care of a monster rumored to be around. They wonder if it's another one of Dr. Animo's escaped experiments, but Gwen thinks it may be a robot. Seeing the state of the robots in the camp. Ben dismisses this and says it's not likely.
Ben and Gwen are greeted by the camp staff, who tell them to pick a track, Gwen picks the Space track, and Ben picks the Robotic track at random. When Ben asks about a robot monster, the two camp staff get nervous and say there is nothing wrong. Ben notices a line of tape blocking a hole in the while, but the two are quickly guided to their dorms.
At the Johnson Dorm, Ben meets his fellow campers, Hector, Preston, Lance, Griffin, and Robby. They hear rumbling in the distance. Hector tells Ben about the dangerous monster, how it howls at the moon and looks for robots to eat, as well as batteries. Last year, before the final competition, the robot took another robot to feast upon its batteries. As proof, Hector shows the severed head of the robot that was taken but the kids think he's lying. Ben wants to know which way the robot head to make sure no one gets hurt.
On Day 1, Hector asks Ben what sort of robot he's gonna build for the robot battle competition. As Ben does science with his friends, Gwen overhears the camp staff replacing bitten wires. A girl tells Gwen about the monster, and Jessie says she saw footprints heading northeast. Gwen tells Ben to join her, but Ben is having fun hanging out with kids his age. He and Hector stay behind. The others inspect some oil, and see moving cells. As they continue walking, the robot springs out of the ground, they were actually standing on its head. The robot takes a small round robot called Sir Roundalot while the kids flee.
Back at camp, the kids tell the staff about the monster, but they get ignored. As Sir Roundalot was taken by the robot, one of the girls will have to rebuild their robot, and she starts sobbing. Ben and Gwen decide to go get the robot back. Ben transforms into Grey Matter and looks for clues, starting with the oil. Grey Matter deduces that the robot has evolved into artificial life. Ben and Gwen go to the office to look for records, and sees Hector and Jessie going back to the hill for Sir Roundalot. They group up.
At the office, Ben uses Grey Matter a second time to triangulate where the robot lives. They begin baiting the robots with wires, and watch it burst out of the ground. Ben demands the robot for Sir Roundalot back, but it attacks them with its laser eyes. As Wildvine, Ben uses the biomass of the surrounding trees to grow to match the robot's size, and begins punching it, interrogating it for all the robots it stole. As he sends it stumbling back, Wildvine reverts and the kids hear the camp staff approaching, so they run.
The next day, one of the kids' bacteria colony - nicknamed Cabbage - suddenly becomes alive after encountering a weird substance. Ben tries to clean it up as Overflow, but Cabbage escapes. The kids pelt it with fruit and try to corner it, but Overflow can't seem to stop it. Cabbage is going to destroy the camp, but the giant robot monster appears and uses its laser eyes to destroy Cabbage, reverting it to a bacteria colony. As they celebrate, they notice the robot is in pain. Ben slowly approaches it and asks if they can help, but he can't understand the robot's binary speech. Ben tries though, and the robot appreciates it and returns Sir Roundalot. Sir Roundalot is completely fixed and can move at ease.
Hector volunteers to hook the robot to the mainframe and inspect its code, but Upgrade does the trick. Hector notices that the robot has a powerful virus infecting almost every process, and he manages to terminate it and cure the robot.
A camp staff member asks the robot if it knows the other robots it took are, and it nods, leading them to its home. All the robots have been repaired, the robot was just looking for friends, and the kids volunteer to be its friend. Back the camp, they fix up the robot, removing all the rust and cleaning it.
Ben finishes his robot "Hero X", who he designed after XLR8, and Gwen wins first place in the astronaut race. They promise to keep in touch with their new friends, but its time to go. Max comes to pick them up, and reports that there's been a glowing monster in a lake. Team Tennyson goes to check it out.
