Ditto is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Splixson from the planet Hathor.^{[1][pop-up 1][2]}

Appearance

Ben as Ditto

Ditto is about the height of an average human child.^{[TNP 1]} He has white skin, a black and white head and face, black shoulders, large hands with four digits and feet which are merely stubs. Ditto also has three fin-like growths on his head, and gem-like extended sensory nodes^{[TNP 2][TNP 3]} on his arms and waist. The nodes on his arms are glands that store protoplasmic DNA,^{[Bandai 1]} which is used to create his clones.

In the Original Series, Ditto's clothes were black and had an overall-like design. He had green eyes with light green shines and wore the original Omnitrix symbol on his forehead.

In the Ultimate Alien intro, Ditto looked exactly the same as he did in the Original Series, except the white section outlining the hourglass symbol across his chest and arms was blue, and his eyes no longer had the light green shine. He wore the Ultimatrix symbol on his chest.

In Omniverse, 11-year-old Ditto's design is roughly similar to his original appearance except he appears smaller and stubbier. All of his fins are recolored white, with the ones on the sides of his head now connected to his eyes. He has two small whiskers on each of his cheeks, his fingers are sharper, and the sensory nodes on his shoulders have been relocated to his shoulders and wrists. His jumpsuit has been altered as well, with his neck being completely black and the feet being cut off to reveal three cat-like toes on each foot. The Omnitrix symbol on his forehead has been recolored green.

16-year-old Ditto looks exactly like his 11-year-old self, except he his fins are recolored green and his jumpsuit is now green with black patches under his arms, green sleeves, and black ankles. This jumpsuit seems to have a design based on the Omnitrix's insignia, with black triangles on the shoulders and green in the center. The three sensory nodes on Ditto's waist are now on a black belt. Like his younger self, Ditto wears the Omnitrix symbol on his forehead.

Ken's Ditto looked the same as 10-year-old Ditto in the Original Series.

Powers and Abilities

Ditto has the ability to clone himself without limits through binary fission.^{[pop-up 2][2]} Each Ditto clone is indistinguishable from each other and operates independently, regardless of what the others want them to do. This allows Ditto to do multiple tasks simultaneously or to cover a large area.^[1]

The extended sensory nodes on Ditto's body^{[note 1]} assist in the sensory web that connects all of his clones^{[TNP 2]} by coordinating the hive mind communication between them.^{[TNP 4][TNP 3]}

Ditto's clones are capable of re-merging back into one. Furthermore, Ditto is able to remotely pull his other clone bodies toward him for this purpose.^[2] Ditto can stop the duplication process before a clone comes into their independent being, creating half-formed clones with some of their limbs fused and stuck to his own. He used this power once to create a "ladder" of clones, where each "rail" was a continuous chain of fused arms and legs.^[4] Ditto's clones can also dissipate themselves at will, shown when they immediately dissipated themselves before they were attacked by the clones of Khyber's Panuncian.^[1]

Ditto possesses enhanced durability, demonstrated when he and his clones were still standing after being hit around by Dr. Animo's mutant Lepidopterran/Splixson hybrids.^[2]

Ditto can jump surprisingly high for his size; while playing basketball, Ditto slam-dunked the ball through a hoop in a way that would be difficult for an average human to jump high enough to do.^[2] Ditto is also quite agile, as he was able to climb, squeeze, and maneuver his way out of reach of Khyber's Panuncian while being chased.^[1]

Ditto can quickly burrow into the ground and breathe underwater.^[1][2]

Weaknesses

If Ditto and his clones are too far apart from each other, he cannot change back into Ben until all the duplicates are close enough together. It seems that this requires more power from the Omnitrix than normal, as seen later when he could only transform into Upgrade for a fraction of the normal time limit.^[2]

Ditto's clones can be fused back together with enough force.^[4]

Being a Splixson, Ditto is at a massive disadvantage against a Panuncian due to them also possessing the ability to clone themselves.^[5][1]

Ditto can be harmed by electricity, such as when he was tortured with an electrical prod by Dr. Animo while he was held captive in a container filled with water.^[2]

Ditto can be controlled by Vladats via their Corrupturas. However, the latter cannot control all of the Ditto clones as each of them are independent.^{[DJW 1]} Furthermore, the Corrupturas will not be copied across his clones.^{[DJW 2]}

Ditto is not resistant to extremely cold temperatures.^[1]

In the Original Series, Ditto's clones shared a link to keep track of each other,^{[pop-up 3][2]} making it so that if one Ditto was hurt, all the others would feel the same pain and if one Ditto got killed, the others were automatically killed as well, thus negating the ability to form an army of clones. This is no longer the case as of O Mother, Where Art Thou?, as each clone is independent from each other's pain, meaning a clone can be killed without harming the others.^{[DJW 3][BTP 1]}

History

Ben 10

• Ditto first appeared in Divided We Stand, where he was accidentally unlocked by Ben and fought Dr. Animo's mutant seagull. Then, Ditto played basketball with his clones and, eventually, one of the Dittos was caught by Animo to have his DNA copied. Later, Ditto defeated Animo's army of Mutant Lepidopterran/Splixson Hybrids.
• In Ready to Rumble, Ditto saved Mrs. Fang and defeated Mr. Beck.

Five Years Prior to Omniverse

• In Ben Again, 16-year-old Ben in 11-year-old Ben's body used Ditto to battle Eon until the latter retreated.

Alien Force

• Ditto was locked by the Omnitrix's reconfiguration in Ben 10 Returns: Part 1.

Ultimate Alien

• In Ben 10,000 Returns, Ditto was re-unlocked by Ben 10,000.

Omniverse

• In O Mother, Where Art Thou?, Ditto fought some Pretty Boy Clones and chased after Ma Vreedle.
• In A Fistful of Brains, Ditto and his clones tried to escape from Panuncian, but eventually failed in the end.
• In Animo Crackers, Ditto tried to chase Spanner, but was caught off guard and defeated by Future Dr. Animo.
• In Universe vs. Tennyson, Ditto fought Fistrick, but reverted.
• In A New Dawn, Ditto appeared for a short time when Ben was cycling through his aliens.

Original Future

• In Ken 10, Ken as Ditto and Devlin found the Null Void Projector.

Etymology

"Ditto" is a word that means "the same thing again", referencing Ditto's self-duplication ability.

Trivia

• According to Ben's fansites on the Extranet, Ditto is his cutest alien.^{[6][DJW 4]}
• Ditto and Wildvine are the only aliens to be manually (and accidentally) unlocked by Ben.
• If Ben were to use Ditto with Skurd attached to the Omnitrix, only the original Ditto would have Skurd.^{[DJW 5]} If all the clones had to use Skurd's power, they would have to remain huddled together.^{[DJW 6]}
• If Ben 23 had a counterpart to Ditto in his Omnitrix he would name him Copy Copy 2.^{[DJW 7]}
• Ditto's Original Series design was made by Thomas N. Perkins IV.^{[TNP 5][TNP 6]}
• The first design he made was approved as the crew was very busy when Ditto was conceived during development.^{[TNP 7]} The only difference is that his fins were changed from white to black.^{[ca 1]}
