Prologue

| On a moonlit, rainy night, the Rustbucket drives through the mountains, where inside... | |
| Ben | Change it! |
| Gwen | No way! You change yours! |
| Max's eye twitches as he drives. | |
| Ben | It's your turn! |
| Gwen | (flipping through a book of preparations) Sorry, but I already picked the cake, color-coordinated the balloons, and sent the invitations! By the way, here's yours. |
| She hands Ben a card with his name on it. He takes it and throws it away in one motion, and resumes rubbing his itching foot. | |
| Ben | Ugh! Who plans her birthday party six months in advance? |
| Gwen | The one who gets to celebrate it on her actual birthday this year...?! |
| Ben takes his sock off his foot and puts it on the table to rub it better. | |
| Ben | I don't think so. Grandpa promised he's taking me for laser tag for my birthday. |
| Gwen | But you can't miss my party, Grandpa! |
| Max | Now you two have shared the same birthday for ten years, and if you don't stop arguing, NEITHER of you will make it to eleven! Here, Ben, try this on your foot. It gets rid of all kinds of fungus. (He tosses Ben a yellow powder bottle.) |
| Ben | (reading) "Athlete's Foot Powder"? Well, I am an athlete! |
| Gwen | More like an athletic supporter, if you ask me. |
| Ben shoots Gwen a look and sticks his tongue out before continuing to apply the powder to his shoe. | |
| As Max drives, a young boy in a camp uniform stumbles onto the road, holding his arm. He shouts as the RV's headlights catch him. | |
| Camper | They're coming! Heeeelp meeee! |
| Max sees him and slams down on the brakes, though it might not stop in time! | |
| Ben & Gwen | Grandpa! |

Act 1
| Speaker | Dialogue |
|---|---|
| The Rustbucket narrowly misses the boy, though as he dives out the way of the swerving RV, he falls off the road and hangs from a tree root above a tall drop. The RV skids to a stop and Ben jumps out. | |
| Ben | Stinkfly to rescue! |
| He slams down the Omnitrix and turns into Cannonbolt. | |
| Cannonbolt | Hoh, man. Can't this thing ever get it right? |
| He curls up into a ball and rolls off the road. Just as the boy loses his grip and falls, Cannonbolt dives after him and grabs him in the air. | |
| Camper | Aah-! |
| Cannonbolt | Gotcha! |
| Cannonbolt curls up around him and uproots a tree, as they hit the forest floor and go tumbling down into a clearing. Cannonbolt uncurls on his back; the kid safely on his stomach. He steadies his spinning head and makes out Cannonbolt's face. | |
| Cannonbolt | You okay? |
| He screams and faints on his belly. | |
| Cannonbolt | Uh, I'll take that as a "no". |
| Cannonbolt flops to the ground; rain pelting him from above. | |
| The Tennysons have the boy laid down in back of the RV. | |
| Max | Just a few scrapes and bruises, that's good. But he's out cold. |
| Gwen | His name's Gilbert. |
| Ben | Whoa! How'd you know that? |
| Gwen | (smugly) Women's intuition. |
| Max | That, AND he's wearing a name tag. |
| Max reveals the tag underneath a rag around Gilbert's neck. | |
| Gwen | He must go to Camp Opinicon. |
| Ben spots a large purple rash on Gilbert's arm and pokes it in disgust. | |
| Ben | Ugh! That is one scary-looking rash! |
| Gwen | It's obviously some kind of fungus. |
| Ben can't stop himself from poking it. | |
| Max | I saw the sign for the camp a little ways back. They must have a nurse. |
| The Rustbucket drives under a sign reading "Camp Opinicon" and parks in front of the main building, as it continues to rain and thunder. The trio walk in. | |
| Max | Hellooo? Anybody home? |
| They walk into a deserted dining room with tables and chairs turned over. | |
| Ben | Ohh, looks abandoned. |
| Gwen | Yyyyup. Definitely abandoned. |
| Max walks to a table and holds his hand over a plate of spaghetti. | |
| Max | Huh, food's still warm. Looks like they left in a hurry. |
| They hear a giant crash of thunder, and the lights go out. Max turns on a flashlight. He shines it on Gwen, then on Ben, having fully sat down and eating the spaghetti. | |
| Ben | What?! (gulps) I'm hungry! |
| Max | Here, (handing Ben a second flashlight) you two can share. |
| Ben | Like we don't share enough already...? |
| Gwen | Oh, will you let it go? |
| Ben | Only if you do first! |
| Gwen | Never! (The two literally butt heads.) |
| Ben | Well, then, never plus one! |
| Max is unamused. A crashing sound of pots from the kitchen interrupts them. As they shine their lights at the door, Ben uses his hand to make shadow puppets. | |
| Gwen | (facepalming) Ugh! |
| Max shines his light through the door window before opening it and exploring the kitchen. As Ben walks forward with the flashlight, Gwen hurries after, getting scared as the only one without a flashlight. At the end of the kitchen, Ben rests his flashlight on a pantry door slightly ajar, with four pairs of eyes glowing back at him. | |
| Ben | AAAH! |
| Ben falls back and drops his flashlight, which only reveals the eyes to be two small children hiding. | |
| Boy & Girl | Is it safe to come out? |
| Max | You two ok? |
| Boy | For- |
| Girl | -now. |
| Max | What happened? Where did everyone go? |
| Boy | W-We heard something outside, but- |
| Girl | -we were too scared to come out. |
| Boy | I'm Andy. |
| Girl | And I'm Mandy. |
| Andy & Mandy | We're twins! |
| Another thunderclap outside scares them. They run over to Max and hold his legs. | |
| Max | Where's the camp nurse? |
| Mandy | G-G-Gone. |
| Andy | With all the others. |
| Max frowns and walks over to a wall-mounted phone, putting the receiver to his ear. | |
| Max | (sighs) The storm must've taken out the landlines, (He pulls out his cellphone.) and there's no cell phone reception either. Let's get back to Gilbert. We'll drive into town. |
| The Tennysons and the twins get in the Rustbucket. The kids are all shivering from the rain, so Max fetches towels. He throws one towel to Ben and Gwen, and another to Andy and Mandy. | |
| Max | Here. To help you dry off. Sorry, but I've only got two clean ones. |
| Andy | That's okay. |
| Mandy | We'll share! |
| The twins happily wrap the towel around them. Meanwhile, Ben and Gwen both tug on the towel, trying to pull it away. | |
| Ben & Gwen | (straining) Let go! |
| Max | (shakes head) Heh, couple o' kids I know could learn a thing or two from you guys. (He ruffles Andy's hair.) |
| Ben & Gwen | (pausing) Who? |
| Max turns the key in the ignition, but the RV's engine starts sputtering. | |
| Outside, Max and Ben open up the front hood, where they see grey growths covering the inside. | |
| Max | Huhh. Engine's covered in some kind of fungus... (closing it up) Well, looks like we're hunkering down here for a while. |
| Multiple beings watch Max from behind the trees, growling from multiple sets of mouths. | |
| The group moves Gilbert to the camp's living quarters. Gilbert starts snoring and drooling, unnerving Gwen. The twins notice Ben itching and powdering his foot. | |
| Mandy | Athlete's foot? |
| Andy | Everyone gets it here. |
| Max | Now you kids remain put. (to Gwen) An' keep an eye on Gilbert. I'll see what I can rustle up for us from the kitchen. (He leaves.) |
| Gwen | Grandpa? "Rustling up" a meal...? |
| Ben | Now that's a scary thought. |
| Gwen | There's GOTTA be a care package around here somewhere. |
| Gwen and Ben race to feel under Gilbert's bed for a care package. They pull the same one out and fight over it. | |
| Andy & Mandy | Can't you guys just share? |
| Ben | (struggling) Like sharing the same birthday with a relative every single year? You don't get it! |
| Gwen | (struggling) Ben, they're twins! As in, "born on the same day"...? |
| Ben | I knew that. |
| Gilbert | THEY'RE HERE! ALL AROUND US! |
| Gilbert's sudden waking startles Ben and Gwen, who spill the package open and fall to the floor. | |
| Gwen | Who's here? |
| Max | AAAH! |
| Ben | That sounded like Grandpa! |
| Ben gets to his feet and sprints to the door. Before he opens it, Gilbert tackles him to the ground. | |
| Gilbert | Don't go out there! (looking around frantically) ...Th-They'll find you! |
| Ben | Chill. (holding up the Omnitrix) I have animal instinct. |
| Wildmutt is soon on the case; sprinting into the forest, tracking a scent. He follows a trail of trees with mushrooms to an abandoned excavator on top of a hill. Once he reaches the top, a pit stretches out in front of him; completely covered in bizzare-looking vegetation, all stemming from a central shaft dug in the ground. As he walks forward and passes plants, they open up to reveal eyes, secretly watching him. Wildmutt stops at the edge of the shaft and peers down it. Purple tendrils suddenly shoot out of the hole. Wildmutt tries to run away, but they quickly wrap around him and slowly pull him back. Wildmutt's claws aren't enough, as he eventualy loses his grip, and is pulled down into the dark. | |
Act 2
| Speaker | Dialogue |
|---|---|
| Wildmutt hits the bottom, and the tendrils keep dragging him through a tunnel. As he starts to break some, he notices Max strung up in the tunnel. | |
| Max | Ben! (Tendrils constrict around his mouth and drag him away.) Mmp! |
| Wildmutt breaks free and starts running after him. While he runs, the Omnitrix times out, and Ben tumbles forward in the cave. | |
| Ben | Unh! (getting up) Oh man. Not now! GRANDPA! |
| As Ben looks around, some mushrooms start to chitter and move. The Fungal Force comes to life, revealing eyes, arms and legs, and twin mouths. They slowly walk towards Ben, who starts running out of the tunnel. As he stops to catch his breath, a giant trapping plant emerges underneath him and snaps at his feet, causing him to fall flat on his back. The mushrooms catch up and dogpile Ben, though Ben easily slips out and runs away. Ben reaches the bottom of the shaft; mushrooms and purple tendrils right behind him. He quickly climbs out. He then spots the excavator and jumps in the driver's seat. | |
| Ben | (pulling levers) How do you work this thing? |
| The tendrils move closer to the vehicle as Ben manages to get the engine started. | |
| Ben | (confident) I'm taking you guys "out at the root"! |
| Ben drives the excavator forwards, pushing all the Fungal Force back down the shaft. The tendrils, however, don't fail so easily, and quickly wrap themselves around the excavator. Ben jumps out the vehicle, as the tendrils lift it up high. | |
| Ben | Okay - so much for that idea! |
| Ben watches in awe as the giant construction tool is lobbed a good 50 feet away, smashing down in the distance. He keeps running. | |
| Back at the camp quarters, Gwen looks out the window and everyone sits anxiously. Ben opens the door and slams it shut. | |
| Ben | (panting) You won't believe it. There are- |
| Gilbert | -Killer mushrooms, everywhere! |
| Gwen | And they're taking over the camp! |
| Ben | Err, right - and they've got Grandpa! |
| Gwen | Oh, no! |
| Gilbert | They must be a-a dormant species that came alive when the camp dug in this new area. See, that's what I was tryna tell you guys when your RV almost ran me over! We gotta get out of here! |
| Ben | I'm not going anywhere without my grandpa! |
| Gwen | Make that both of us! |
| They head out of the cabin as a group. | |
| Ben | What do you think they want? |
| Gwen | Well, I took this advanced botany course last semester, and I think- |
| A towering blue bulbous fungus on a stalk suddenly erupts from the ground in front of them. | |
| Ben | Ah! They want us! For plant food! |
| They all run back inside, throwing themselves against the door. But inside, another one starts bursting from the floorboards. | |
| Ben | Everyone out! |
| They run back out as the fungus tears through the shack. Bulbous fungus after fungus erupts from the ground around them. Eventually, no more come, and the fungi settle in; their long stalks creating almost another forest around the group. | |
| Ben | Okay... They stopped. That's good. |
| Gilbert | A-Actually, it's worse. Those are puffballs, containing BILLIONS of mushroom spores! If those mushrooms mature and release those spores...? |
| Gwen | They could spread over the whole state! Or even the whole COUNTRY! |
| Ben | (pulling Gwen aside) That's it. I'm going XLR8. I'm gonna save Grandpa and start choppin' them down! |
| Gilbert | A-Actually, the only way to eliminate a mushroom i-is to destroy its mycelium. |
| Ben | Its...what? |
| Gwen | Its brain...? |
| Ben | You guys know way too much about mushrooms. I'll see ya. |
| Ben begins to walk away but Gwen stops him. | |
| Gwen | I'm coming with you. He's my grandpa, too! |
| Ben | We might share a bunch of stuff, Gwen, but we don't share this. (holding up the Omnitrix) |
| Gwen | ...Be careful. |
| Ben nods, and the two head in opposite directions. | |
| XLR8 speeds through Wildmutt's trail. He stops to take another look at the mine. It's less wondrous than before, and more giant mushrooms can be seen sprouting farther away. | |
| XLR8 | This doesn't look good. |
| He flips his visor and runs down into the shaft and through the tunnels. He periodically stops and looks around. | |
| XLR8 | GRANDPAAA? |
| The sound wakes up some Fungal Force. XLR8 keeps moving. | |
| Gwen and the campers run through the camp's archery range and hide behind a target. | |
| Gilbert | I-If we make it to the dining hall, maybe we can barricade ourselves in the kitchen. |
| Andy | And fight these things off with what, a SPATULA? |
| Mandy | We are so dead meat... Oh I hate it, hate it, hate it here! |
| The ground starts shaking beneath their feet. A giant blue mushroom raises Andy and Mandy up from the ground; Gwen and Gilbert falling off. | |
| Andy & Mandy | Noooo! |
| As it stops growing, flaps on its cap open up, revealing tendrils that quickly bind around the twins and gobble them up. As it starts digesting them, Gwen scrambles to find a weapon. | |
| Meanwhile, XLR8 comes to a fork in the tunnel. As he decides which path to take, tendrils lower from the ceiling and try to surprise him. XLR8 quickly slices them up with his quick sharp claws. | |
| XLR8 | Keep your roots to yourself! |
| He tries the path to the right. | |
| Gwen finds a bow and arrow and shoots the giant mushroom down, gases spewing from it. | |
| Gwen | Bullseye! |
| Gilbert and Gwen help the twins out. As they cough and recover, two identical mushrooms start sprouting beside the dead one. | |
| Gilbert | Move it! |
| The kids run through the archery range; mushrooms rising all around them. They stop at a tower with rock climbing walls. | |
| Gwen | We need to get to higher ground! |
| Mandy | But - the rock wall is only for the older campers... |
| The Fungal Force's glowing eyes meet Gwen's in the dark. | |
| Gwen | Call me crazy, but right now, I think some camp rules are meant to be broken! |
| Meanwhile, Max slowly wakes up, just as XLR8 claws through fungus blocking the room's entrance. | |
| XLR8 | Grandpa! |
| He zooms over to Max and starts ripping off his binds. | |
| Max | (weakly) Ben... |
| XLR8 | Save your strength. I'll have you free in just a- |
| The Omnitrix times out. | |
| Ben | No! |
| Max | Ben, behind you! |
| Tendrils wrap around Ben and cover his entire body. | |
| Ben | Grandpa! |
| They shut around his eyes. | |
Act 3
| Speaker | Dialogue |
|---|---|
| Gwen climbs to the top of the course, leading the others. | |
| Gwen | Come on! We gotta keep moving. |
| The tower is connected to a zipline that stretches across the fungi forest and to the camp entrance. As Gwen studies it, Andy and Mandy start fighting over the first trolley. | |
| Andy | Me first! |
| Mandy | No! Me! |
| Gwen | Does it really matter?! Now, zip it! |
| Mandy | (blows raspberry at him) |
| The entire group begin riding across, with Gilbert going last, terrified. | |
| In a room deep underground, Ben and Max are strung by tendrils against a wall. | |
| Max | Ben, can you reach your watch? |
| Ben | (Ben struggles to push the raised faceplate down with his other hand.) Ugh, I'm trying, ugh. I think it needs more time to recharge- |
| He suddenly succeeds, and the Omnitrix glows green uncharacteristically. Ben transforms into a plant-like creature, made up of green vines and tendrils, with three eyes and a 'flytrap' around his head and neck; Wildvine. | |
| Max | What the heck is that? |
| Wildvine | Beats me. I never went him before... |
| Spikes grow out of Wildvine's body and break him free. | |
| Wildvine | But I like what he can do. |
| He fashions spikes out of his fingers and cleanly slashes Max's binds away. | |
| Wildvine | Let's get out of here, Grandpa. |
| Voice | You're not going anywhere. |
| Wildvine | (looking around) Did you hear that? |
| Max | Hear what? Unh! |
| More vines suddenly grab the both of them and pull them underneath the ground. They emerge in a giant cave room below, which is barely containing an enormous pink mass of tissue, roots, and spores. "The mother of all fungus", as it were. The voice emanates from it. | |
| Voice | I communicate with all vegetation on a telepathic level. |
| Wildvine | (gasps) |
| As the kids continue ziplining, a single Fungal Force makes it to the top of the rock climbing tower. It uses its sharp cap to cut through the zipline rope, and the kids start falling. | |
| Andy | A-Aaah! |
| The giant mushrooms on the ground luckily break their fall. | |
| Andy & Mandy | (getting up; wincing) |
| Hundreds of Fungal Force in the way of the main building stare them down. Gilbert anxiously spots a small storage hut. | |
| Gilbert | I-In there! |
| As they run to it, tendrils erupt from the ground and shoot towards them. Gilbert looks behind him and screams as they get closer. Gwen is luckily able to get everyone inside and shut the door, before the tendrils slam against it. | |
| Andy | We wouldn't even BE here now if YOU didn't make us hide in the kitchen! |
| Mandy | ME? It was your idea in the first place! |
| Andy | Well...you didn't have to listen to me! |
| Gwen | STOP - IT! |
| Andy & Mandy | She started it!/He started it! |
| Gwen | It doesn't matter who started it, or whose fault it is. What matters is you're family. And you need to stick together. Got it?! |
| Andy & Mandy | (grumpy) ...Okay. |
| Gwen | Good, because we're gonna need to FIGHT our way out of here. (She grabs a baseball bat.) |
| Wildvine | Let me guess. You're the 'brainiac'! |
| The pink fungus brings Wildvine closer to it and reveals a mouth lined with sharp teeth. | |
| Voice | I prefer 'mycelium'. |
| Max | Ben, who are you talking to? |
| Wildvine | "Mr. Mushroom Head". It's like we're connected or something. |
| Mycelium lowers Wildvine even closer to its jaws. | |
| Wildvine | (to Mycelium) Aw, man. Why can't you be a vegetarian? |
| Mycelium | Struggle as you may, you cannot stop me. Soon, I will consume every living creature on this planet. |
| Wildvine | Well, you are NOT starting with us! |
| Wildvine wrestles out of Mycelium's vines. As he starts falling, he reaches for the ceiling, which inadvertently extends his arm until his hand hits the ceiling and sticks to it. As Wildvine comes to a stop, his momentum shakes loose one of the black pods on his back, which falls on Mycelium and explodes. Curious, Wildvine resumes grappling the ceiling and freeing Max from the vines. He lands him on one of Mycelium's large roots. | |
| Mycelium | Surely as a plant, you must understand the wisdom of sharing a single intelligence. |
| Wildvine | I'm not good at sharing ANYTHING! (He grabs handfuls of pod bombs from his back.) Just ask my cousin. |
| Wildvine jumps high in the air, spinning around and letting his bombs fly. | |
| Gwen kicks open the door to the hut and leads the kids into the fight. Gwen wields the bat; Andy is decked out in hockey gear and stick; Mandy has a visor and a paintball gun; and Gilbert nervously holds a baseball pitcher machine. They run toward a group of Fungal Force. Gwen bats the first few away; Mandy shoots some with paintballs; Andy shoots a puck that hits and bounces off multiple Fungal Force. As Andy and Mandy continue, one Fungal Force climbs to the top of a giant mushroom and stands on the edge of its cap. It jumps off to attack them from above, but gets shot away by something. Andy and Mandy look back and see Gilbert lowering his baseball gun. | |
| Gilbert | Hee hee hee! |
| Andy & Mandy | Nice shot! (looking past him) Uh-oh... |
| They drop their things and run away. Gilbert looks behind him and sees a horde of stampeding Fungal Force. They all run away. Gwen and the twins turn a corner around a group of giant mushrooms. Gilbert drops his gear in his panic and almost takes the wrong way, but corrects himself. The Fungal Force luckily stops at the fork and considers which way to go. The kids stop running, as they reach the shoreline. Gwen frantically looks around and spots an abandoned rowboat. | |
| Gwen | Everyone thinking what I'm thinking...? |
| All | CHARGE! |
| The kids hold the upturned boat over their heads, ramming through the Fungal Force. | |
| Gilbert | Take no prisoners! |
| They drop the boat once the RV and the main building are in sight. As everyone beelines to it, Mandy is suddenly grabbed by a tendril and snatched up high in the air. Andy turns around and sees her; he opens his hockey bag and pulls out a pair of skates. Mandy sees Andy twirling around the skates, tied together like a pair of razor-sharp bolas. He throws them at the tendril; slicing it in half and dropping Mandy (right onto Andy). The twins run in the kitchen and Gwen shuts the door. | |
| Meanwhile, Wildvine is busy chopping Mycelium's roots with his hands. | |
| Mycelium | Resistance is futile. For even if you destroy me, you cannot possibly destroy the billions of my spores I am about to release into your atmosphere. |
| Wildvine | I'll worry about them next! |
| But the Omnitrix times out. Vines quickly grab both Ben and Max, and raise them above Mycelium's jaws. | |
| Ben | Grandpa! ...I'm sorry. |
| The kids have barricaded the front door with every table and chair in the room. Though, as they turn to the other set of doors, Fungal Force come walking in from them. They turn around, screaming, as the mushrooms and tendrils also manage to bust open the barricaded set of doors. The creatures now surround the kids. | |
| As Mycelium holds Ben and Max over its open mouth, multiple red tongues rise up to them. Max kicks one away. | |
| Max | If I'm going down, I'm at least gonna kick the fun out of this fungus! |
| Ben | That's it! |
| Max | That's what? |
| Ben | You said the foot powder kills all kinds of fungus, Grandpa! |
| Ben kicks off his shoe, filled with the athlete's foot powder, into the Mycelium's mouth. It starts bleeding and reflexing in pain. Ben pulls the bottle of powder out from his pocket and tosses it down too. Mycelium's roots start breaking and it falls to the floor, dropping Ben and Max. It convulses before completely exploding in a tidal wave of goop. | |
| At the same time, as the first Fungal Force steps forward toward the kids, it starts shaking; its body twists up until into a thin figure; and falls to the floor. All the other ones do the same. | |
| Gilbert | (shakliy) What just happened? |
| Gwen | (smiling) Ben just happened. |
| The kids calmly walk outside, past the twisted, fallen, dead mushrooms. | |
| Andy & Mandy | This camp ROCKS! |
| Gilbert | (to Gwen) Oh, yeah! I can't wait to come back! |
| They stop at the sight of Ben and Max, completely covered in smelly goop and with a horrified look on their faces. | |
| Gwen | You did it! |
| Ben | Almost. We still got to stop those spores. |
| He motions to all the puffballs, still standing tall. Ben's eyes widen and he turns to Andy. | |
| Ben | Did you say everyone at camp gets athlete's foot? (Andy nods.) |
| Inside the infirmary, Ben opens a cupboard stocked full of powder bottles. | |
| Ben | Any brilliant ideas on how to let this stuff go? |
| Gwen | Actually, as a matter of fact...! |
| Come daytime, a cloud of foot powder starts raining down. Gwen shakes the powder down, riding on top of Stinkfly with the wind in their faces. The powder makes the puffballs instantly shrivel up. | |
| Gwen | (laughing) |
| The Tennysons celebrate at a pizza restaurant. | |
| Ben | Nice work, cous'. Couldn't have done it without you. |
| Gwen | Anytime. |
| Ben | And I was thinking...I guess I can have my birthday any time. You take the real date. |
| Gwen | That's nice of you! But it's really no big deal, you take the real date. |
| The two smile at each other... | |
| Ben | SNEAK! I KNEW I'd get it after only one "you take the real date"! |
| Gwen | (grumbles) Dweeb! |
| Max | Oh, well. Guess you two really can't agree on anything. |
| Max smiles as a waitron comes to their table and sets down a pizza topped with- | |
| Ben & Gwen | Mushrooms?! |
| Ben | Gross! |
| Max | Well, almost anything. |
| Max happily snacks on a slice. | |
